Christmas Present

Over the last couple of weeks I been compiling the ultimate Christmas album, and now I am going to share the first two parts with you. Now there's going to be a lot of music here, in fact there's far too much. But that's the idea, you can go through and cherry pick out the ones you don't like. Look forward to such delights as Arcade Fire not being very good for once, Fats Domino sounding uncannily like Wesley Willis, the connection between Belle & Sebastian, Snoop Dogg and James Brown, some dubious cover versions, and some even more dubious Christmas themed song title puns. And some actually quite good music. Feliz natal!

Thanks for the present....it must have taken you ages! I am particularly enjoying Snackin' Santa and Spongebob's Christmas song. Not so sure about Homo Christmas - someone singing that I need a "nice hard cock" for Christmas, makes me feel a bit funny! I only wish I could return the favour and send you "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas" by The Chipmunks, but I only have it on cassette - darn!

davey, two pieces of information for you:

1) shakin stevens was the top selling male solo artist in the UK in the 1980's.

2) he was the first gig i ever went to.

dis shakey and you dis me, so watchit.

all hail the true king of rock n' roll!!!

merry christmas

You've blatantly plagiarised factoid No. 1 from Last.fm....don't think I haven't read the info on Shakey too!!
How old were you when you saw Shakey?....Just trying to work out how cool that was!

so not only to i have to contend with having shakey dissed on my own blog, but then i get accused of plagarism! zoester, you should know that lastfm is built on geeks like me contributing those facts. that one came from my own cheesebox, i'm afraid.

i think i was about 9 when i saw the king at the brighton centre (the worlds most souless venue TM). it was on my birthday. i was just beginning to grow out of him, but i still loved it. i occasionally still stand on my toes in a heartfelt but painful tribute to the great man.

dave, just because its looks like that person is wearing havianas it doesn't mean it was taken in brazil. and as you know i don't have toes, I have hooves.

I already knew factoid 1, and it means nothing. The biggest selling album this year is Snow Patrol but it doesn't mean I have to like it.

I do have a tiny soft spot for 'the true king of rock'n'roll' as you call him for beating up Richard Madely on live tv.

I'll still listen to it on my way too and from Canning Town.

of course sales are no indication of quality. but dude he out sold michael jackson! surely that means something?!!

OK, I suppose you seeing Shakey is almost as cool as me seeing Paul Simon on the Rhythm of the Saints Tour, at 12. Obviously it was my Dad's choice....but still one half of Simon and Garfunkel, eh? That definitely makes up for seeing D:Ream when I was 15...doesn't it? As they said "Things can only get better" - too damn right!

It means the great unwashed have unfortunate music taste.

Kudos for outdoing a kiddie fiddler though...

...maybe he should have just become a crime fighter, a masked vigilante, then I'd like him.

JT - how right you were about the shiteness of the Arcade Fire Christmas offerings. I can only assume they were created as a joke amongst friends and some thieving scoundrel grabbed the recordings and sold them to the highest bidder. Please tell me that's what happened.....

d:ream at 15, hmm less said the better methinks.

the arcade fire tracks were recorded at a party in 2001. it isn't the full band and they were just goofing about. apparently they are a bit annoyed that they have been leaked, but they doesnt mean we shouldnt listen to them, right?
